Career Conversion Programmes for PMETs

With digitalisation and automation making waves in every industry and sector, existing industries and jobs are introducing and adopting new technologies at a rapid rate in hopes to innovate and maintain their business longevity. These new technologies and their benefits have undoubtedly paved the way for improved work efficiency and productivity, and is now a pervasive feature in most methodologies and frameworks across all industries and sectors.

Despite being inherently good, rapid digitalisation and automation also bring forth several challenges, especially for those looking to work in a different field or industry. In such cases, how then does one make their transition in the middle of their career?

Update skill sets to tackle the effects of job disruption through Profession Conversation Programmes.

Fortunately, there are several programmes available for individuals to keep up with the ever-changing market. Career Conversion Programmes (CCPs), for one, are career programmes for jobseekers (Professionals, Managers, Executives and Technicians) looking to make a career switch. These programmes offer PMETs the resources needed to undergo skills conversion and move into new occupations or sectors that may have good prospects and opportunities for progression.

Modes of Career Conversion Programmes:

There are three modes of PCPs:

  1. Place-and-Train: PMETs are hired by a participating employer before undergoing the necessary training to make a career switch.
  2. Attach-and-Train: PMETs are provided with training and work attachments, prior to their job placements, through industry partners in growth sectors with good future job opportunities.
  3. Redeployment/Job Redesign (JR) Reskilling: Targeted at companies undergoing radical transformation within the organisation, and where their existing workers are at risk of redundancy or in vulnerable jobs due to the transformation. These employees will then be provided with training to take on new job roles or redesigned job roles within the company.

Employees are an integral part of a business’s success and it’s crucial that we establish greater accessibility for those who require the necessary training and education support for their job transitions.
